MUSIC PRODUCTION
My relationship with music production really began out of necessity as I created songs as an artist. I had more song ideas than I had the budget for at the time, so in 2018, I bought Ableton and a small MIDI keyboard to start my journey. The first time I tried making a beat though, it was on the ferry and I distinctly remember being so frustrated I wanted to throw my laptop off the boat into the water! I’m glad to say I did not do that and that I’ve come along way since then.
These days, producing music is less about trying to keep my expenses low and more about expressing my creative ideas in the form of music, alongside my lyrics. To date, I’ve produced or co-produced the majority of my artist discography, and have produced songs and made beats for a handful of artists as well over the years. It also helped learning how to record and produce my own vocals to get them sounding the way I hear them in my head.
Production highlights include producing Mikey Jose’s “Wait” which was featured in Murder In A Small Town, and co-producing Desirée Dawson’s Meet You At The Light EP which was nominated for a JUNO and includes songs featured in Heartland and Re: Uniting.
I make beats under the name BATA.
